Judges Education Committee
The ACKCSC Judges Education Committee is committed to advancing breed education through qualified, ethical, and experienced volunteers. This policy outlines the qualifications, responsibilities, and approval process for individuals serving as Breed Seminar Presenters and Mentors.
I. General Overview

The Judges Education Committee maintains the official list of ACKCSC-approved Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Presenters and Mentors.

Final approval of all candidates is granted by the ACKCSC Board of Directors, based on recommendations from the Judges Education Committee.

Geographic location is considered to help minimize travel demands for volunteers.

Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications outlined below and submit a completed Application Form to initiate the approval process.

All approved Presenters and Mentors represent the ACKCSC and are expected to conduct themselves with professionalism and integrity.

Approval may be granted for one role or both; not all candidates will qualify for both.

Only Parent Club-approved Presenters may conduct official breed presentations.

Once approved, Presenters and Mentors may be asked to fulfill duties as outlined in Sections III and IV.
II. Qualifications for Breed Seminar Presenters and Mentors
To be considered for approval, candidates must:

Be a member in good standing with the ACKCSC.

Adhere to the ACKCSC Ethical Guidelines.

Have a minimum of 12 years of experience breeding or exhibiting Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.

Demonstrate thorough knowledge of the AKC breed standard, breed history, and function.

Possess strong interpersonal skills; Presenter candidates must also have effective presentation skills.

Be available and flexible to accept mentoring or presenting requests.

Share breed knowledge in an unbiased, educational manner—never promoting personal kennels, dogs, or breeding programs.

For Presenter candidates: Attend at least one ACKCSC breed seminar and hands-on session conducted by an approved Presenter.

For Mentor candidates: Participate in at least one mentoring session conducted by an approved Mentor.
Note: The name of the approved Presenter or Mentor who conducted the educational experience must be included on the Application Form.
Duties of a Breed Seminar Presenter
When requested by the Judges Education Committee, an approved Presenter will:

Conduct the ACKCSC breed seminar using the official seminar outline and PowerPoint presentation.

Answer attendee questions based solely on the AKC breed standard.

Supervise hands-on dog evaluations organized by the Judges Education Committee.

Facilitate student feedback and discussion regarding placements.
-
Share their own placements with rationale based on breed standards.
-
Follow AKC guidelines for breed seminars and hands-on experiences.
-
Complete all required documentation for both AKC and ACKCSC.
Duties of a Breed Mentor
When requested by the Judges Education Committee or by private request, an approved Mentor will:

Provide ringside tutoring at National or Regional Specialties or other shows with major entries.
Note: Students are typically aspiring judges or interested breeders. -
Educate students and answer questions based solely on the AKC breed standard.

Discuss the virtues of exhibited dogs.
If faults are mentioned, discussions must be inaudible to exhibitors. Judge placements must be discussed respectfully and never demeaned. -
If appropriate, arrange for students to examine one or two representative Cavaliers (with owner permission), focusing only on the dogs’ virtues.
V. Approval Process
Breed Seminar Presenter

The Judges Education Committee reviews each application.

Candidates must participate in a Breed Seminar Session at a National or Regional Specialty.

The Committee submits a recommendation to the ACKCSC Board of Directors.

The Board votes on each applicant and notifies them of the decision.
Breed Mentor

The Judges Education Committee reviews each application.
-
Candidates must participate in a mentoring session at a National or Regional Specialty.

The Committee submits a recommendation to the ACKCSC Board of Directors.
