Patricia Kanan, Torlundy Cavaliers

Growing up my family was active in breeding and showing Arabian horses.  After attending university, beginning a business career, marriage and a multiple state and continent  living arrangement, my involvement in the horse world came to an end.  The family’s last Arabian passing on at age 44.

I began my love affair with Cavaliers in 1988 when I acquired my first Cavalier, “Dougie.’  He changed my life forever.  He was the first to captivate and enchant me.  Although certainly not a show dog, he exemplified what true Cavalier temperament should be.  After attending the old registry shows and watching for years, I obtained my first show prospect puppy.  She was a lovely Blenheim bitch who was Best Puppy at her first show weekend.

I was invited to join the group forming the ACKCSC, Inc. founding Board of Directors in 1994.  The club was licensed and the breed recognized by the AKC in 1996.   I chaired the first three National Specialties in 1997, 1998, 1999 and again in 2008.

In 1996 Cindy (Lazzeroni) Huggins of Courtlore Cavaliers and I agreed to co-own a bitch,  Morningstar Betty Boop and her first litter produced 3 champions.  Her daughter, Torlundy Court Jasmine went on to produce CH Torlundy Deacon.

Cindy and I worked well together.  We have co-owned and co-bred Cavaliers and English Toy Spaniels for 21 years.  We combined our breeding programs in 2000 and focused on the arrival of CH Maibee Delovely, ROM from friend and mentor Shealagh Waters of  Maibee Cavaliers,  England.

CH Maibee Royal Revenge, ROM; BIS & BISS CH Maibee The Godfather, ROM; CH Ravenrush Xpress to Torlundy; CH Maibee Delovely, ROM; CH Maibee The Prime Suspect, Maibee Miss Marples, CH Craigowl Jarrow; BISS CH Peaksdown Derby; Eng & Am BISS CH Timsar Mister Moonlighter and GCH Chanctonbury Viva La Diva have all been influential in our breeding program.

Our primary goal has always been quality not quantity which includes health, soundness , temperament and type.  Today Cindy and I have a combined total of over 60 champions in Cavaliers King Charles Spaniels, English Toy Spaniels, Japanese Chin and Pekingese.

After many years as an Officer and Board Member of the Kennel Club of Beverly Hills, I now serve as Show Chair of the first three televised shows.  These are the first to be televised in California.

Serving my Parent Club and this glorious breed has been one of the most gratifying of my life.
