To qualify for the Register of Merit (ROM):
Dogs must have produced at least 10 champion get.
Bitches must have produced at least five (5) champion get.
NEW CATEGORY
To qualify for the Legion of Merit (LOM)
Dogs must have produced at least three (3) get who have obtained their ROM.
Bitches must have produced at least two (2) get who have obtained their ROM.
To qualify for the Advanced Performance Award (APA) your dog must have
achieved one of the following AKC performance awards:
UD, UDT, UDX, TDX, MACH, VCD3, OTCH
These awards must have been achieved by the end of the 2006 calendar year.

| "This year the American Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club, Inc.
will award our first Register of Merit awards for our top producing sires
and dams featured on the following pages. Since the ROM is a club award,
it will be granted only to Cavaliers owned by our club members. At this
point, a dog must produce twenty AKC champions to earn the ROM designation;
a bitch must produce five champions. As the AKC point system for numbers
of dogs needed for majors changes, the number of progeny necessary for
the ROM title may also change. One of the factors not considered in the
ROM award, at this time, is the number of litters or number of progeny
and the resulting champions produced by a dog or bitch. Because AKC registration
is new for the Cavalier and some of the champions recorded were born in
litters originally registered with another registry, it would not be possible
to compute percentages of champions to litters or to total numbers of puppies
registered as is done in some other parent clubs. This is a factor to consider
for the future." |

| It is interesting to note that both 1997 R.O.M. Sires are
sired by Can. Ch. Salador Celtic Dirk, Can. C.D. (who was bred by Sheila
Smith and owned by Brigida Reynolds), and that two of the three 1997 R.O.M.
Dams are granddaughters of Can. Ch. Salador Celtic Dirk, Can. C.D. through
the 1997 R.O.M. Sires - Ravenush Tartan, bred and owned by John D. Gammon
and Robert A. Schroll, and Can. Ch. Rutherford Elliot of Shagbark, bred
by Robbi Jones and owned by Martha Guimond. |

| It is interesting to note that the only sire to be awarded the
ROM for this year, Ch. Ravenrush Gillespie, is from two of the five ROMs
from last year: Ravenrush Tartan, ROM x Ravenrush Xacta, ROM;
and one of the dams, Ch. Ravenrush Wild Orchid, is also from two of last
year's ROMs: Can. Ch. Rutherford Elliot of Shagbark, ROM x
Ravenrush Xacta, ROM. Also noteworthy is that two of the dams, Ch.
Rattlebridge Make Believe and Mitterpaws Hooray Hannah of Shagbark are
by Ravenrush Tartan, ROM, and all of Ch. Rattlebridge Make Believe's champions
are by Ch. Ravenrush Gillespie. In addition, Ch. Ravenrush Quaker,
a dam earning one of this year's ROMs is by B.J. Holy Terror x
Ch. Ravenrush Xanthe (a littersister of Ravenrush Xacta, ROM who needs
only one more champion offspring to earn her ROM Title). The ROM statistics
